Construction - Baan Kuan Pring (Nakorn Sritammarat province)

11-24 July 2010

Project:Baan Kuan Pring is a small village in Nakhon Sritammarat province on the border to the provinces Pattalung and Trang. The campsite is near a national park with beautiful nature and the famous mountain range called Ban Tat. About 200 people live in Baan Kuan Pring and the main occupation is working on local rubber farms. Volunteers will work together with a group of enthusiastic villagers who are setting up a learning centre for biological/ecological agriculture near a national park in a rainforest surrounding. Awareness of environmental issues and self-sufficiency has not spread much among villagers in rural areas wherefore their aim is to educate people about those topics. As well university students come regularly to learn about this way of farming. Volunteers will build a clay house with a small experienced group from the North of Thailand. The clay house will be used as a library and the learning centre itself additional to the outdoor areas where vegetables and fruits are grown in a nature-friendly way. Other small environmental and agricultural activities can be done as well as getting to know Thai culture. If volunteers want to contribute books (for example easy books to learn English) to the library they are more then welcome to do so.

Aims of work camp:
