Art & Creative - Thung Mor, Songkhla

17-30 October 2010

Project: Thung Mor is a small Buddhist village of Sadao district in Songkhla province, Southern Thailand. It is about 20 kilometers away from the Thai-Malaysian border. There are about 918 villagers. Most of them work on rubber plantation, but some work in factories in the nearby town. Annually in October’s time, public and private schools all over Thailand give a 3-week holiday break to students. So there’s no school during your service. This is a new project of Thung Mor sub-district office that has planned to build a pre-school for the village pupils. The building will have been finished by the time the project takes place. Well, it’ll be a new and colorless single building located in 360 sq. meter area. In October last year, we organized this Art & Creative work camp in another school in the village. At that time some of our long-term volunteers also joined in. After having known that another work camp will be organized in their village, the villagers are very happy to welcome a new group of international volunteers again. For those two weeks we will decorate outdoor school walls and its surrounding.
In this project, you will be doing these following activities:

  1. Painting and drawing the building
  2. Organizing fun and cheerful activities for the village children (optional)
  3. Adjusting school surroundings such as creating nice gardens
First, we prepare and when everything is ready for painting, then pictures are drawn. We need your ideas, creativity and motivation to get this job done. So, let’s scatter the walls with creative and beautiful pictures, plus colorful paints for the children!

Aims of work camp:

- To bring a nice atmosphere to the pre-school

- To support the village

- To build friendly relationships between volunteers and local people
